WW-Day III - Sturmgewehr 44
It’s Wednesday and that means we will write about a weapon decided by you. This time you wanted us to write about the StG44 better known as Sturmgewehr 44.
This particularly weapon is seen as the predecessor to the modern day assault rifle. The gun was developed by the German army under World War 2, and was designed to be a weapon that was capable of being mass produced.
The system offered smooth fore action and utilized the 7.92x33mm Kurz round firing from a 30-round magazine. There has also been some interesting attempts at “practical” MP 44 designs was the MP 44 mit Krummlauf also known as “the gun that could shoot around corners” the idea about the design was to arm soldiers within vehicles with a weapon system capable of targeting enemies that had managed to come out of the fire angles.
The StG44 has been used by Argentina, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Israel, France, Kingdom of Hungary, Nazi Germany, West Germany and Yugoslavia.
Bonus info: To start with Hitler was against the StG44 and the fact of having an assault rifle, but without his permission the weapon was taken in use and after seeing how effective it was, Hitler was now convinced that the StG44 was a strong weapon.
